Florence Fire/EMS Station 3
Florence, Kentucky
Our building design is separated into two masses; one living space and one apparatus bay totaling 9,980 square feet. These two areas are separated by a dramatic brick wall that runs the length of the building, extending through the entry. Wanting to honor their fellow firefighters, the end of the wall near the entrance was detailed to contain a piece of a beam from the World Trade Center and will become a memorial to 9/11. The steel piece will be suspended in an opening of the wall, providing a solemn contrast to the rest building. The apparatus bays make use of ample glazing because we wanted to make sure that it displayed and highlighted the equipment inside. The exterior materials match those used by the City in its other municipal facilities, helping pull together a cohesive visual identity for the City.
